MXR Phase 90 with SoaringTortoise "Look Ma No Hands" Pedal-less Expressor Mod
This MXR Phase 90 phase shifter was picked up recently for minimal scratch because it was missing it’s rate control pot. We sent it down to the SoaringTortoise Electronics Super Special Custom Modification Facility to see what our trained monkeys could do with it and they returned it with the all new Look Ma No Hands Pedal-less Expressor mod. This modification replaces the rate control potentiometer with a Light Dependent Resistor (LDR) and a small trim pot thus allowing you to change the rate of the phase shifting by altering the amount of light entering the LDR (see demo video at right). The pedal has also had a small hole drilled through the top of the case directly over the factory installed bias trimpot which allows you to alter the depth and shape of the phase wave form (with the help of a tiny screwdriver) without opening the case. This is a used but recent MXR phase 90 (made within the last two or three years) and displays use wear in the form of scuffs, scratches, and some small paint chips but is otherwise undamaged and in good condition. The original box for the pedal is included. PRICE: $69.99 with free shipping to Lower US 48. Actual shipping costs elsewhere.
Boss DS-1 Distortion with aftermarket Keeley Seeing Eye and Ultra Mods
Boss DS-1 Distortion serial number BY30488 with aftermarket Keeley Seeing Eye and Ultra mods. This pedal was acquired through an online auction. It was listed as non-functional and in need of repair. The seller had purchased a Boss DS-1, and an aftermarket Keeley seeing eye/ultra mod kit, and tried to perform the modification himself. He was not successful. The pedal was then sent to our SoaringTortoise Electronics Super Special Custom Modification and Repair facility where our trained monkeys (Davey, Peter, Mike, and Mickey,) cleaned up some sloppy solder work and reoriented one of the diodes. It now works perfectly and sounds awesome (see video to right). The pedal displays moderate use wear in the form of scuffs scratches, and some paint chips on the corners and edges. It may acquire a little more use wear as I intend to continue gigging with it until you buy it. It also has two non-original knobs from a late seventies Peavey mixing console and a new battery connector clip. PRICE: $79.99 SOLD with free shipping to the US lower 48. Actual shipping elsewhere.
Electro-Harmonix Small Stone Phaser Shifter with SoaringTortoise Pedal-less Expresor Mod.
Electro-Harmonix Small Stone V.4 (recent) with SoaringTortoise Electronics Pedal-less Expressor mod. This EH Small Stone was acquired recently in an online auction and was in need of a battery door and keep assembly. It was delivered to our SoaringTortoise Electronics Super Special Custom Modification and Repair Shop where our trained orangutan Oscar fabricated a new battery door and battery keep out of recycled sheet metal and some new feet out of synthetic wine bottle cork. It then received the highly regarded (amongst myself) SoaringTortoise Electronics Pedal-less Expressor Mod from the monkey squad. This mod replaces the Small Stone’s LED indicator light with a Light Dependant Resistor (LDR) allowing the user to alter the rate of the phaser with their foot (see video above, phaser starts at about 5 min 30 sec ). The rate control can be returned to normal operation by covering the LDR with an opaque piece of tape or a thin piece of refrigerator magnet. The pedal displays lots of use wear in the form of scuffs, scratches, and some tape glue residue on the front side. The phaser also has a smaller non-original, knob which makes it easier to manipulate the Pedal-less Expressor LDR. PRICE: $99.99 SOLD with free shipping to the US lower 48.Actual shipping elsewhere.

Vintage, circa 1987, DOD FX90 analog delay pedal with the fabled MN3005 bucket brigade chip.Fully functional and sounds thick and rich, fat and juicy, and whatever other artery clogging food analogies one wishes to attribute to this unit (See video to your right). The unit does show quite a bit of use wear in the form of scuffs, scratches, and paint chips. Additionally it is missing the battery cover and has non-original knobs. Two original knobs are included with the unit. One knob is undamaged the other is missing its cap and is a bit chewed up. Otherwise complete and all original, no mods. Electro-Harmonix EH4800 Small Stone Phase Shifter w/ SoaringTortoise Pedal-less Expressor Eye mod.
Electro-Harmonix EH4800 Small Stone Phase Shifter version 4 from the 1990s with SoaringTortoise Electronics Pedal-less Expressor Eye mod. The modification allows you to change the speed of the phase rate by altering the amount of light entering the expression eye. Less light means a slower rate, more light a faster rate. You can view a video demo of the pedal on our SoaringTortoise Home page. The phaser rate control can be returned to normal operation by simply covering the hole over the expression eye with something opaque like a coin taped over the hole or, like the included piece of refrigerator magnet with flying turtle logo that I use to cover the hole with. As a side note you are almost guaranteed to lose the included flying turtle magnet shortly after receiving this pedal. This is my own personal phaser which I have used for years and it displays quite a bit of use wear in the form of many noticeable scuffs and scratches as well as some tape residue and a patina of rock and roll grunge and grime but it is otherwise undamaged and fully functional. PRICE: SOLD$109.99 with Free Shipping in the lower 48 US. Actual shipping elsewhere.

Boss DD-6 Digital Delay with Hi-Cut Mod.
This Boss DD-6 Digital Delay, acquired through trade from effects pedal aficionado Brother Vern, has been modified in our SoaringTortoise Custom Special Modification Custom Shop shop. Our STCSMCS shop installed a three position miniature slider switch which offers the option of two hi- cut settings and the original sound of the delay. The center switch position retains the delay's stock , or original, sparkly digital sound. Moving the switch to the left introduces a subtle but noticeable high end roll off on the delay repeats giving the delay a more studio quality digital sound. Moving the three position switch all the way to the right introduces a much more pronounced high end roll off to the echo repeats which puts the delays on the threshold of analog. The hi-cut mod has been performed on both the A and B signals so the high-end roll-off will work in both Mono and Stereo. As with all things SoaringTortoise the switch is recycled, having been removed from an old digital alarm clock which did not keep time. The clock was slow, delaying the time ever so slightly. We thought it apropos that the switch was used in a digital delay pedal. The unit is otherwise unmolested and fully functional with the hi-cut mod usable in all mode settings.Because this effect was formerly used it does show moderate wear in the form of mild scuffs and a few scratches. Price: SALE $99.99.SOLD plus actual shipping to you
Vintage 1966 Sears Silvertone Model 1481 Tube Guitar Amplifier.
This vintage circa 1966 Sears Silvertone Model 1481 tube amplifier was left on our doorstep over twenty years ago with a note reading “ Pleeze take ker of my baby as I kan no longer aford the elektrisity to fede her.” It appears that the poor soul had tried to starve the amp first as it was missing the plug end of the power cord and the rectifier tube. The vagabond came to their senses in the nick of time, we were able to nurse this little gal back to health, and now twenty plus years later, after much laughter, love, and music, she is ready to leave the nest. To view a video demo of this amp in action go to: http://youtu.be/mdiIHz0ymIA.
The amplifier is all original except for its volume and tone knobs and the aforementioned power cord plug end and rectifier tube. The volume and tone knobs have been replaced with some good quality metal units swiped from and old stereo hi fi. The power cord has had a newer , used, plug soldered in place and it’s electrical tape insulation installed over twenty years ago was recently replaced with new tape good for another twenty years. The current rectifier tube was installed about five years back and is/was an NOS Amperex unit which has seen light duty since being put in. The amp still retains its original 6V6 power tube and 12AX7 preamp tube both labeled with the “Silvertone” logo. (The tubes were recently tested and all registered strong and healthy.) The 8” AlNiCo speaker is original and in excellent, undamaged, condition. The amplifier is fully functional but does make some moderate crackling static noise when adjusting the volume control due to a dirty potentiometer. This can be heard in the video demo. The amplifier displays moderate use wear in the form of scuffs, scratches, some small nicks in the covering (the worst of which can be seen in the close up picture of the Sears Silvertone badge), some putting and surface rust on the chrome carry handle hardware, and a light patina of dust and grime settled into the texture of the covering. The amp is not dirty but it is not what I would call clean either. Sounds equally great with guitar or harp. PRICE: $224.99 plus actual shipping to you.
Early 1970s Acoustic Research Corp. Model 150 Amp Head
This Acoustic Research Corporation Model 150 amplifier head dates to approximately 1971. Considered a transistor dinosaur now, in its day it was on the forefront of transistor amp technology and still sounds better than many of its modern solid state kin. Rated at 200 watts output into 4 ohms( we believe this is a peak rating and the true RMS rating would be closer to 75-100 watts) with two separate channels, each with their own inputs and tone controls, and the effected channel also having controls for reverb and tremolo rate and intensity.
The amp is fully functional and all original except for a replaced fuse holder and power switch. The original power switch went out a while back and has been replaced with an 8 amp switch located on the back (see pics). We chose to put the new power switch on the back of the amp because the original is factory riveted to the chassis and would have required the removal of the two glued on brushed aluminum front panel strips in order to get at the rivet heads. (well made but not service friendly). The original power switch is still intact but is not functional. All other switches work fine as do all the control pots and jacks. The back panel has two speaker output jacks, a booster output jack( we believe this is for plugging into a satellite amp), a footswitch jack for the included two button footswitch (for engaging the reverb and tremolo on the effects channel), an accessory outlet, and the aforementioned replacement fuse holder and power switch.
The amp shows considerable use wear in the form of many scuffs, scratches, stains, nicks in the tolex covering and tape residue on the control panel (smells ok though). We are remiss to clean the amp as the days of Rock and Roll, when this amp reigned its mighty head, are fast becoming history and we feel we would be removing valuable historic patina. Price: $149.99 Sold plus actual shipping to where ever you may be.
Vintage Roland AP-2 Phase II Phaser
The Roland AP-2 Phase II, the phaser only a mother could love. This is one ugly vintage mid-seventies 6-stage phaser from the early days of the phase craze. Built like a tank and painted to match. The unit is fully functional but has seen much use over the years and displays many scuffs, scratches and paint chips. It has had the output jack replaced at sometime in the past and lost it's original washer in the process. The washer was similar to the one on the instrument input jack but has marked with the word "output" or perhaps "amplifier".Additionally the phaser is missing the four original screws and grommets which held the bottom plate on. The bottom plate is presently held on with two non-original looking screws. The unit requires two 9-volt batteries for power and has no AC adapter jack. This phaser can be seen and heard in action beginning at 6:50 in this video demo of the Sun Ball Fuzz: http://youtu.be/rmDUDGq7bYw . Price: $110.00 SOLD with free shipping in the U.S. and $25.00 international shipping.
